What is MMA [Mixed Martial Arts]?

The Sport Mixed martial arts (MMA) is a full-contact combat sport based on striking, grappling, and ground fighting. MMA combines a wide variety of fighting techniques, and skills from various combat Sports, from around the world. Such as: Karaté, Taekwondo, Judo, Boxing, Kickboxing/Mau-Thai, Amateur Wrestling, Grappling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Russian Sambo. Throughout the 20th Century, Combat Sports fans and fighters from all over the world used to debate the question: “Who would come on top, if 2 different styles clashed?” For instance.. What if a kickboxer squared off against a wrestler? Or... What if a Boxer faced a Karate fighter? In other words: What would happen in No Hold barred competition, where both competitors could punch, kick, clinch, grapple, etc...? And fast forward to the year 1993, all such unanswered questions started to get answered! As the very first Ever official Mixed Martial Arts Competition/Event was held in Denver, Colorado in the United Sates, on Live Television, on PPV (Pay-per-view) UFC 1 was an unprecedented step in the world of combat sports, as finally, Fight fans from all over the world got to watch Fighters from different backgrounds and fighting styles, clash against each other, in what was advertised ‘back then’ as: A No hold barred, No time-limit, NO RULES Fight, to determine which fighting style was/is superior, and which fighter would reign supreme. In the years that followed, MMA Events proved to be very successful and profitable, which contributed in the launching of multiple MMA Promotions. And to ensure a safe and fair competitive environment for fighters, and fans alike, more rules were added, weight classes were introduced, and safety regulations were enforced. Beyond the Sport “The Industry” As of 2022, and according to a study by “Pairmatch”, MMA has been the fastest growing sport financially in the last five years. MMA Events around the world air on cable television’s Top Sports’ Networks & Channels, such as ESPN, ESPN+ and Fox Sports, delivering record viewership, and always ranking among the Top most viewed Shows ever. And throughout the past 25 years, MMA promotions worldwide have constantly succeeded in: bringing in more viewers to their T.V shows and Pay-per-views, attracting a variety of advertisers & sponsors, as well as, incorporating in other multi-million dollar ventures, such as: Branding, Merchandise selling, Training Institutes, Sponsorship programs, charitable work, and other successful ventures. And thankfully so, all aforementioned ventures have always played a big role in reaching unprecedented levels of success for the sport, thus, solidifying the field of Mixed Martial Arts as a highly successful and profitable industry. And to this day, MMA events continue to set New attendance records, and PPVs butyrate numbers. Making MMA the most popular sport in the world of Sports and Entertainment. Year after year, MMA events continue to set New in door attendance records, as fans from all over the globe gather in some of the world’s most renowned venues, to watch their favorite fighters, and cheer at the top of their lungs. Historic Venues such as: New York’s ‘MSG’ Madison Square Garden arena, Los Angeles Califonia’s Staples Center, and on the other side of the world in Etihad Stadium, in Melbourne, Australia, have all been sold out, with the latter setting the all-time MMA in door attendance record of over 57,000 fans.
